Bermuda Triangle

One of the most mysterious places in the world, which is still considered. Stretched for about 500,000 sq miles to 1.5 million miles, which sits in the Atlantic ocean and forms a triangle between Bermuda and Island of Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. Also known as the “Devil Triangle” this area is responsible for disappearance of ships and flights which travel in this area. The U.S. Navy estimates that around 50 ships and 20 planes have gone missing.

Story of Christopher Columbus and his men, which dates back to 1492 saw a strange phenomena during his first sail over the Atlantic Ocean, first he saw that the stars are moving around in the sky. Then he saw a candle like light moving up and down in the distance, after asking his crew about it to check the light, it vanished and reappeared many times.

Despite that there is no significant information about the disappearances and no correct data are there to prove this theory. Although there are two incidents which are considered as the mysteries of Bermuda Triangle, Like Flight 19 in 1945 and USS Cyclops in 1918 went missing.

Blood Falls (Antarctica)

On top of the earth and the coldest, driest place, Antarctica is home of Blood Falls. This Crimson-coloured waterfall pours litres or gallons of water along the icy white glaciers. Its name suggests the texture of the waterfall as a gush of blood from a wound. Initially said to be red algae but, the study of Glaciology has uncovered using radar that, a complex network of subglacial rivers and subglacial lakes-all filled with brine high in iron, giving the falls its reddish colour.

Devil’s Tower National Monument (Wyoming)

Also known as Grizzly Bear Lodge, the first national monument of the U.S. originated in 1906 in northeastern Wyoming, near the Belle Fourche River. The mountain markings are based on Native American Legend, one suggesting that it is claw marking of a giant bear while chasing Indian maidens. Known by Bear’s Lodge in several northern plain tribes. Which is now a sacred site of many American Indians. Devils tower is also remembered as the movie location of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”.

Door to Hell (Turkmenistan)

Near the 350 person village of Davaza, is the hole 230 ft wide that has been burning for 50 years. It was accidentally formed by the Soviet, as they were drilling rigs and punctured through a massive underground natural gas cavern. Which caused the ground to collapse and having a pocket of gas, poisonous fumes began leaking at an alarming rate.

To control the potential environmental catastrophe, the Soviets set the hole alight, thinking it will burn till a few weeks. But, it remains burning for years.

Easter Island (Chile)

The Stone carved head-and-torso figures, average 13 feet tall and 14 tons. There are no evidence why it was made but most scholars suggest that to honor ancestors, chief, or other important personages.

Hundred of years ago, a group of Ploynesians moved towards the vast open sea with the help of stars. But why they left their native land still remains a mystery. But they made a small, uninhabitable island with rolling hills and a lush carpet of palm trees their new home, eventually naming their 63 sp miles of paradise Rapa Nui-now popularly known as Rapa Nui.

Here 2300 miles west to South America and 1100 miles from the nearest island, the migrants carved the volcanic statue and carved moai, monolithic statues built to honour their ancestors.

Lake Hillier (Australia)

The most unique and pretty looking water in the world, having Bubblegum-pink hue to the lake. It has plenty of fishes living in these waters and is even safe for swimming but, no visitors are allowed.

It is widely believed that the Pink colour hue is due to extreme salinity of the water. This was debunked in 1802 by Matthew Flinders, who led an expedition to the Islands and collected samples from the lake, but there was no proof that the salt is the main ingredient.

Magnetic Hill (India)

This small stretch of road, located about 30 km from Leh city, is famous for its movement of cars against gravity. While there are different scientific conclusions, the locals at the area believe that it leads to heaven and only the worthy ones find the way to it.

There are two theories that can explain the reason behind the uphill movement. The most common one is the strong magnetic pull which is why it is able to pull vehicles in the vicinity. It is so strong that the planes do not fly over this area as it can malfunction the devices.

Another equally popular reason behind the uphill movement is the optical illusion. According to this the hill does not have strong magnetic force, but it creates a optical illusion of the road, that it equally goes downhill and seems as it goes uphill.
