Steam Guides are a Numbing Mess of Jokes Say PC Gaming Fanatics

Finding yourself stuck in games is no fun, and Steam guides have been a valuable tool for everything from bug workarounds to finding collectibles. While we'd of course suggest that you visit PCGamesN for everything from Fortnite Kamehameha locations to Minecraft enchantments, the user-created guides that are integrated into the Steam Community page are a quick and easy tool that is often extremely helpful in times of need. However, many users claim that the feature is now filled with fake entries and people attempting to farm awards for Steam Points.

Steam Points can be earned through the purchase of games, add-ons and other related content through the Steam store. These Steam Points can be used to purchase a variety of items from the Steam Points Shop - these cosmetics can be used to personalise your Steam profile page or avatar, and also chat effects and emoticons that you can use when you chat with other Steam users. Steam Points can be awarded to other players as 'awards' - it is typically done to thank them for an informative guide or review.

Steam Points can also be used to purchase funny content. As such, users say that the Steam guides section is overflowing with a plethora of joke guides hoping to nab some Steam Points from other players. From Counter-Strike: GO guides mocking Valve's anti cheat service entitled "How does VAC work' (the body text reading "it doesn't") to a multitude of 'How-to jump, walk and shoot' guides that give the appropriate button to press, often in a somewhat over-exaggerated manner, the Steam guides section is now an overflow of guides that aren't really useful, even when they're entertaining.

A thread on the Steam subreddit titled "Steam guides then vs now - I want to go back' brought attention to this issue, and quickly gained popularity among the Steam community. Many users lament the flood of spam entries, saying they miss the days where guide content was simple to find. In theory, the best guides for a game should still be voted on - however, some of the users say they've been putting off posting or browsing guides on Steam because the user experience is poor nowadays.

Some users also mention the same issue with Steam reviews. One user says that "Valve promoted too much with the 'Funny' tab on Steam reviews," suggesting that the option to reward players for their humorous reviews has also led to a degree of tomfoolery that affects PC gamers' ability to find accurate reviews on given products.

We hope Valve will take steps towards cleaning up the section. We have a wealth of helpful PC game guides to help you.
