About the issue

You’ll face trouble when you try to access your financial data in the company file because of this error. The chances of receiving this error increase if QuickBooks fails to connect to the multi-user network. This is primarily due to interruptions from the antivirus installed on your computer or the Database Server Manager that has stopped running in the background. Reasons

The following reasons are responsible for developing this error in QuickBooks-

  • QuickBooks is not able to connect to the multiuser network due to restrictions from the security software installed on your computer.
  • The Database Serve Manager has malfunctioned and stopped running in the background.
  • The Network Descriptor file is missing from its location or has incurred damage.

Solutions

The methods mentioned below will help you eliminate this error from QuickBooks-

Solution 1- Use QuickBooks in Administrator mode

Using QuickBooks in Admin mode prevents it from getting interrupted by any other program running on your computer. Special permissions are granted, allowing it to access the company files inside the folders without worrying about folder permissions. Follow the steps given below to use the Administrator mode-

  1. Go to the search panel and type ‘QuickBooks.’
  2. Do not open the program; instead, right-click on the QB icon.
  3. Select Run as administratorfrom the options.
  4. Try to access the company file after QuickBooks runs in admin mode.

If the issues persist while opening the company file, try the next method.

Solution 2- Rename the Network Descriptor file

The Network descriptor file(.nd) is responsible for establishing a connection with the company file hosted in a multi-user environment. If this file deals with any issues, the multi-user network is directly affected, causing the user to face an error while opening the company file. Follow the steps given below to fix this issue-

  1. Go to the folder containing your QuickBooks files.
  2. Search for a file with the same name as your company and extension .nd.
  3. Right-click on the file and click Rename.
  4. Add ‘.old’ at the end of the file name.

The error will be fixed after using these methods.
