What is the Kashmir issue?

The Kashmir issue refers to the conflict between India and Pakistan over the region of Kashmir, which is a disputed territory. Both countries claim sovereignty over the entire region, but the territory has been divided since the two countries gained independence in 1947. India controls about 45% of the region, including the Kashmir Valley, Jammu, and Ladakh, while Pakistan controls about 35% of it, which includes Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. The rest of the region is held by China. The issue has led to several wars and numerous conflicts and continues to be a source of tension between the two countries.
