Chinese Guild Heads to Taiwan, Kills Mimiron on Hard Mode

2 min read

WoW has been going through a period of change in China recently. The 9 did not get approval from the government for Wrath of the Lich King to be released. This could have led to Blizzard licensing the operation of WoW to Netease in China.

In the midst all this, it was the players who were caught in the middle. They had their play availability up in air and were stuck in the middle of Kil'jaedan's death as they waited with bated breath for Northrend. There are a few players who have taken matters to their own. The art of kerembeyit The Chinese guild Stars decided to make an attempt to join the Taiwanese servers, where Wrath has already been released. They've settled into the Crystalpine Stinger server very nicely as they've defeated Mimiron on 25-man Hard Mode, making them only the second guild worldwide to have achieved this feat.

It's a pretty amazing accomplishment all on it's own, of course, seeing as they beat out almost all of the usual suspects worldwide to be the first to achieve this feat, but can we extract any insight into the future of WoW in China from it? It's likely that not every Chinese player is going to have the energy and patience to switch to the Taiwanese server and level up their characters from scratch, but it looks like there are at least a few players who are doing this. There might be a chance that one or two players will even attempt World of Fight to find something different to do with Wrath.

It is yet to be determined if this Taiwan migration will impact WoW in China. However, for the time being, it is clear that the Stars guild has been an excellent example. Thank you!
