Programming languages can be challenging to master, especially for kids who prefer to create them rather than play with them. Thankfully, ThoughtSTEM has found a method to make programming fun and accessible in a single shot. Its forthcoming LearnToMod software teaches you how to write JavaScript code by creating Minecraft mods that are suitable to your current level of skill. If you're new to the game with Minecraft, you can make blocks of code to create simple, yet fun features, such as bows that shoot Teleporters. Advanced students, however can write in raw JavaScript and create content you would never have thought was possible in Minecraft's cuboid universe, such as Tetris's mini-game.

If the game's gameplay isn't enough, there's numerous motivators in the system. There are more than 100 lessons that include video tutorials, badges to be earned for accomplishing certain tasks and private servers that allow you to show your projects to your peers. If you're pursuing an education in programming you can earn credit at the University of California San Diego. Although there are only 150 students currently testing LearnToMod however, you can buy it at a discounted price of $30 before the launch in October. This is a great deal if you're looking to get your feet on the ground.
