'Minecraft' Add-on Helps you Learn Programming while Playing

1 min read

Programming languages can be a challenge to master, especially for kids who prefers playing games than creating them. Thankfully, ThoughtSTEM has found a way to make coding both enjoyable and accessible in one shot. Its upcoming LearnToMod software will teach you how to write JavaScript code by producing Minecraft mods that are appropriate to your skill level. If you're new to the game with Minecraft, you can make blocks of code that produce simple but fun features, like bows that shoot Teleporters. Minecraft servers Advanced students, for instance, can write in raw JavaScript and create content that you wouldn't think was possible in Minecraft's cuboid universe, such as Tetris's mini-game.

If the game isn't enough, there are plenty of motivators included in the system. There are over 100 lessons, which include videos and badges for completing specific tasks. Private servers allow you to share your projects with your friends. If you're looking to pursue an education in programming, you can get credit at the University of California San Diego. While there are only 150 students currently using LearnToMod, you can still pre-order it for $30 before the launch in October. This is a great deal if you're looking to get your feet on the ground.
