'Minecraft' Gets its Own Official Monthly Swag Box

2 min read

Monthly subscription boxes are a unique concept. Subscribers pay to get t-shirts and other merchandise. The model is utilized by companies like Dollar Shave Club, Fancy, Graze, Loot Crate and Fancy Crate. But Mojang is a newcomer to the market. This is right, Minecraft now has its own swag box.

For just $30 per month, Mojang says it will send its subscribers a special "Mine Chest" full of "hand-picked, official, Minecraft products." Although the exact contents aren't known, Mojang promises customers an t-shirt, crafting recipes, and other collectibles every month.

The Mine Chest was first unveiled in July 2015 at MineCon. Mojang made 55,000 beta keys available to attendees to secure the first boxes, but it's now open to everyone. While it sounds like the ideal gift for any Minecraft fan However, it comes with some stipulations.

First, Mojang requires that subscribers choose a monthly plan, which is billed in advance, however, shipments aren't due until May. The company says that payment up front will allow it to better serve customers by purchasing premium items in higher quantities to reduce costs. Each month, a Mine Chest will be charged $7 shipping. Mine Chests are only available in the US at this time. Mojang blames the high cost of shipping for its exclusivity, but says it's "working extremely hard" to lower the cost and expand availability.
