Step 1 – Try to Access the Company File using Different Extensions

Firstly, search for the company files with .qbw, .qbb, .qba, or .qbx extension in the Windows search box. Add an asterisk before the extension type and open the company file. Restore the company file backup in the following manner –

  1. Go to the Filemenu and select Open or Restore Company, followed by selecting the company file.
  2. Click on Local Backupand follow the company file location to save the restored file on your system.
  3. Use the following extension types according to the file type you want to restore –
  • .QBWfor working files.
  • .QBBfor backup files.
  • .QBAfor accountant’s copy.
  • .QBXfor transfer files.
  • .QBYfor accountant change files.

Step 2 – Create a New Company File Location on Your Local Storage

  1. Plug in your storage device and copy the company file to your Desktop.
  2. Open QuickBooks and from the No Company Open window, select the Open/Restore Company File
