These Minecraft Ancient City Redesigns Are Gloriously Green

Minecraft builders are renovating the 1.19 update's old cities as if they never were destroyed.

As if the deep dark was not enough, intrepid builders are currently pulling off complete revamps of Minecraft 1.19's massive new cities. There is a little small building happening in between other projects.

The massive structures that have been destroyed deep underground are spooky by default: ruined pillars dotting the darkness, covered in sculk blocks and screaming shrieks ready to summon a warden should you not be careful when you enter their territory.

Perhaps the wardens are just cranky because their homes are in disrepair however. WZJXZZ Fortunately, builders are working to bring the ancient cities back to their former splendor. Some have been completely overhauled with lush cave greenery to prove that they used be life-sustaining genuine cities. Some add lore of their own and light up the dark with an abundance of bright blocks. At least one decided to keep the atmosphere spooky. Perhaps ancient cities were always risky. The builders were often so determined to build their buildings in a strict style and were not innovative. You won't catch me doing that.

These builds utilize the best Minecraft shaders and texture packs to create vivid auras. Here are some of the most original and beautiful ancient city designs, along with links to the creators. This is not the last of the amazing Minecrafting. We've also gathered up some stunning desert temple redesigns underwater bases, as well as numerous other top Minecraft designs.

This restored city by Unsorted Guy takes us back in the deep dark to a time before it was overrun by wardens and sculk. Unsorted Guy shows how he started by replacing all the sculk in the city with deepslate blocks. He also turned the ceilings into stalactites, and brought in tons and tons of vines from the caves that were lush. Unsorted Guy also relocates grass blocks, digs a stream, and builds his own version of an old city farm. The area was once a bustling place. With all that water, the final build definitely has a hidden mountain city feel to it.

This Andyisyoda reimagined city is making me feel big Atlantis impressions. There's plenty of greenery that is being added to this site. It's hard to believe that these underground cities were ever dull and gray.

In the build timelapse embedded above, you can see Andyisyoda build high-fantasy bridges on an ocean of water that is covered in vines. They also kept some of the spookiness alive by using the lava moat that runs around the giant portal. At the end of the day, they've got an entire sunken city that is surrounded by towers, huge lush greenery and walls of lights.

As if constructing the city manually wasn't difficult enough, Fixxitt412 has done it in complete survival mode, meaning there is no life after death over 100 days. The construction of Fixxitt is also lush with manicured areas that are brimming with flowers and farms. However, they haven’t removed all the sculk completely, which is nice.

The structure has a magical feeling to it, with of light and stained-glass emanating from the copper conduits that are at the top of the central portal. There are even houses for the villager to live in the darkness. I wonder how long they'll survive.

Another lush subterranean city was built by RandomGgames (opens in new tab) and OceanManRulesZaWardo. The one that is more overgrown and may even be as abandoned as other cities of the past. Similar to the other stunning green buildings, this one uses a variety of leaves and vines and incorporates the classic glowstone blocks for lighting. The two seem to have removed all sculk in the area and replaced it with wooden walkways, arches of deep slate and other landscaping elements.

This "build" is actually two screenshots (opens in new tab) but not a fully-fledged undercity, but it's such an awesome image that I couldn't resist but include it for all the other people around the room.

This is the total opposite of all these calming green recreations of the old city. Seggie could have made this area more terrifying than a Nether fortress if it ever happened. The skull archway as well as the blue flames look very threatening.

This is not a Minecraft build. This is an actual Lego set design based on the ancient cities created by Veyniac540 (opens in a new tab). It's amazing. If you're interested in building it yourself, they've got the steps and list of parts (opens new tab). That is, after you're done building things in Minecraft.
