Minecraft: Education Edition Available on Chromebooks for Back To School

As schools across the globe prepare for Back to School and transition to hybrid, remote, and in-person learning models, educators are using Minecraft: Education Edition to keep learners active and connected. As part of our mission to assist teachers, students, and families in this unique transition Minecraft: Education Edition app is now available for download. Minecraft: Education Edition app is now available for Chromebooks.



Since Minecraft: Education Edition first became available to schools in 2016 educators from all over the world have been wondering when the platform would be made available to Chromebooks. We are thrilled to welcome educators from Chromebooks to the world of Minecraft and our global teaching community, in collaboration with the Google Education team!



This release of Minecraft Education Edition also features new features for users on all types of devices including Chromebooks, Windows, Mac, and iPads, to enable hybrid and remote learning in preparation for Back to School. We have eleven new STEM lessons, including the unique Minecraft world created in conjunction with the American Beekeeping Federation's Kids and Bees Program. This Minecraft world will introduce kids to honeybees and their pollination. These include new mobs such as bees, foxes and honey blocks, beehives, beehives. We've also updated our lesson library with tagged learning activities that makes it easier to find lessons.



How do I get Minecraft: Education Edition for Chromebooks



Chromebook, iPad, and Windows users will be upgraded automatically to the latest version of Minecraft: Education Edition, while Mac users need to install the updated version manually. Visit the Help Center for everything you should learn about starting with Minecraft Education Edition on Chromebook. The Chromebook version Minecraft: Education Edition has the same features as the other versions. Students can collaborate with one another using Chromebooks or iPads. You already have Minecraft: Education Edition access if your school is licensed with Microsoft 365 for Education (A3 and A5) Minecraft: Education Edition is licensed via annual subscriptions purchased through the Microsoft Store for Education via volume licensing agreements as well as through partner resellers. Logging in currently requires an account with a Microsoft account but we're working to allow users to log in with an account on Google account, too.
